About Entertaiment
The word entertainment is derived from the medieval Latin intertenere, combining the prefix inter meaning “inside” with the suffix tenere, referring to holding or keeping inside. It is also a compound of the Indo-European root ten, meaning to stretch or extend.
In the modern era, entertainment is an industry that provides diversions and amusements for individuals, families and groups. It can range from a private evening of music and dance, or a meal adapted for two, to performances designed for thousands, and global broadcasts.
Children’s entertainment often mimics adult activities and is important for their growth and development, whether it be learning to watch performances (such as TV) or preparing for responsibilities of family life through play with dolls, pets and group games.
